Benefactor’s Message

Children are our greatest ambassadors. They reflect our beliefs, our values and our hopes for the future. In their curiosity, character and potential, we see a roadmap to what lies ahead. It was within this spirit – and with the support and encouragement of so many within our community – that I began the exciting journey of creating Providence School.

It has been an enriching and deeply rewarding journey. As the saying goes, we shape buildings so they, in turn, shape us. The school buildings on the historic Francia Plantation sit on a lush and scenic landscape overlooking the beautiful St. George Valley – an inspiring setting for nurturing young, energetic minds.

Eugene Melnyk

Providence means: “under the protective care of God or nature.” It is a fitting name, reflecting both the tranquil learning environment and the strong foundation of core values that guide our school values, shared by all who have helped bring Providence to life.

It is my hope that Providence School continues to be an integral part of the Barbados community, offering young minds a place to learn, to love and to laugh.

Our Mission

To educate children, through a well-balanced program of academics, arts and athletics, as a means to stimulate them intellectually, socially, physically and spiritually.

Our Vision

To be recognized as a top-tier institution in Barbados and the wider region, known for academic excellence, inclusive values and preparing students for global citizenship in a nurturing, safe and beautiful environment.

The Tribes Learning Community

Providence Elementary School adopted the Tribes philosophy of education because it aligns closely with our motto, “Teach me Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge.” Tribes fosters safe, inclusive learning communities where students feel respected, valued and actively engaged in their learning.

Through clear agreements – attentive listening, appreciation, mutual respect and the right to pass – students develop collaboration, responsibility and resilience. Grounded in research on cooperative learning and social development, the Tribes approach supports both academic success and positive behavior, helping every child thrive in a changing world.

Students learn collaborative skills that enable them to work effectively in long-term groups or “tribes.” These skills include setting goals, solving problems, monitoring progress, supporting one another and celebrating achievements.
